TK Elevator launches EOX Rebuild to modernize Europe’s ageing elevator infrastructure

  • EOX Rebuild is a full replacement solution for existing buildings bringing eco-efficient, natively digital and highly flexible modernization capabilities to a broad range of residential and commercial building environments.
  • Solution modernizes Europe’s ageing elevators, providing improved accessibility, energy efficiency and digital connectivity.
  • Designed for existing low-rise buildings with capacities from 320 to 1,000 kg, speeds up to 1.75 m/s and travel heights up to 75 meters.

Düsseldorf (Germany), June 8, 2026 – TK Elevator (TKE), a global leader in vertical transportation and urban mobility, today announced the official launch of EOX Rebuild, a new full replacement solution within its EOX elevator family. Designed specifically for existing low-rise buildings, EOX Rebuild combines the eco-efficient and natively digital capabilities of the EOX platform with added flexibility to adapt efficiently to existing elevator shafts.

“Across Europe, we are seeing significant investment in the modernization of existing buildings as cities and property owners work to improve sustainability, safety, accessibility and quality of life1,” said Bora Gülan, CEO Europe Africa at TK Elevator. “Vertical mobility needs to be part of that transformation. With EOX Rebuild, we are extending the eco-efficient and natively digital advantages of the EOX platform into the full replacement market, helping customers renew ageing elevator systems with a future-ready solution designed for today’s buildings and tomorrow’s urban needs.”

Accessibility has become a central driver of this transformation, as buildings are increasingly expected to support barrier-free movement for all users, to move beyond regulatory requirements and reflect changing societal expectations for urban participation and quality of life.

Eurostat research asserts more than 21% of Europe’s population is 65 years and older2. The European Council indicates that 24% of the total European Union population is living with disabilities3. The majority in these two demographics live in Europe’s major cities making vertical mobility systems mission critical.

Globally, over 30% of elevators are more than 20 years old – with this figure rising to over 50% in Europe and North America. This makes modernization increasingly important as expectations for inclusive, reliable and digitally connected mobility continue to rise4.

Recent research commissioned by TK Elevator in Spain underscores this shift, highlighting how architectural barriers continue to impact everyday mobility. The findings show that many people actively avoid inaccessible buildings and public spaces, reinforcing the need for more inclusive urban infrastructure across Europe.

Supporting sustainable modernization and accessibility

EOX Rebuild addresses these challenges by enabling building owners to replace ageing elevators with a future-ready vertical mobility solution that is designed to update the safety requirements while significantly improving accessibility, ride comfort and operational efficiency while reducing energy consumption and long-term operating costs.

Built for diverse shaft conditions in replacement projects

EOX Rebuild supports capacities from 320 to 1,000 kg, travel heights up to 75 meters and speeds up to 1.75 m/s. The solution incorporates a regenerative belt drive system, standby and eco-mode functions to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions.

EOX Rebuild also brings advanced digital functionality to modernization projects through features including multimedia displays, integrated connectivity, customer portal access and compatibility with TKE’s MAX predictive maintenance solution. The platform is designed to enable predictive and proactive service and higher availability while improving transparency for building owners and users.

To support complex modernization requirements, EOX Rebuild includes enhanced flexibility for cabin dimensions, door positioning and shaft utilization. Additional options such as reduced overhead configurations and a single-phase 230V power supply option help simplify installations in challenging existing building environments while minimizing structural modifications and disruption for owners and residents alike.

Improving everyday mobility for residents

In addition to technical modernization, EOX Rebuild is designed to significantly enhance the everyday passenger experience with improved ride comfort and uptime, more accurate levelling, state-of-the-art digital emergency communication systems and enhanced accessibility features aligned with current standards.

It also supports building owners in improving accessibility by enabling step-free access solutions as part of complex modernization projects. In older buildings, elevator access is not always aligned with street level. Full replacement can address this by enabling direct, step-free access, significantly improving everyday mobility for residents.

Expanding access across Europe’s existing buildings

EOX Rebuild is now available across Europe Africa as part of TKE’s expanding modernization portfolio. Together with EOX Renew, which is designed for retrofit projects, highly space-constrained buildings and existing buildings where elevator access needs to be added, the EOX platform now supports an even broader range of modernization and accessibility needs across Europe’s existing building stock.

This need is particularly visible in existing residential buildings without elevators, where accessibility barriers can directly limit people’s independence, social participation and quality of life – a challenge also highlighted by recent TK Elevator research in Spain. From replacing ageing elevator systems to improving access in buildings without elevators, TKE’s EOX solutions help building owners enhance everyday mobility, could support property value in specific markets5 and contribute to the sustainable renewal of urban infrastructure.
