TK Elevator unveils new generation of AI-enabled TWIN systems for high-rise buildings

  • TWIN is now digitally native and eco-efficient with embedded AI and adaptive traffic management to improve uptime, availability and passenger experience.
  • Two independently operating cabins in one shaft can increase transport capacity by up to 40% while requiring up to 50% less elevator-core space, depending on the configuration.
  • New TWIN builds on almost 25 years of experience and expands TK Elevator’s Dynamic High-Rise portfolio alongside HELIX, DOUBLE DECK and Shaft Climber.

Düsseldorf (Germany), October 28, 2026 – TK Elevator (TKE), a global leader in vertical transportation, today introduces a new generation of the renowned TWIN elevator system, adding features that make it digitally native, eco-efficient and AI-enabled. TWIN was first introduced in 2003 and uniquely features two independently moving cars in a single shaft.

For new installations and modernization projects, TWIN implementations are designed to bring specific advantages to developers and architects: reduce the number of shafts, thereby reducing the building core requirements and increasing the rent-or-sellable space, or increased passenger capacity comparing with single or double-deck elevator systems. Depending on the configuration, TWIN can transport up to 40% more passengers than a conventional elevator system while requiring up to 50% less elevator-core space.

“High-rise buildings are expected to be digital and connected to deliver a better experience for all stakeholders: greater movement and operational flexibility, higher capacity with less wait time, predictive for more efficient operations and a better experience for the people who use them every day. And, as the importance of CO₂ emission control increases globally, regenerative drive capability, reduced building materials and the ability to park one car during low-volume periods make TWIN more eco-efficient vis a vis other elevator systems and configurations,” says Brad Selleck, COO, TK Elevator. “The new TWIN brings space, data and mobility together more intelligently. It helps customers make more effective use of their building core today while providing the adaptability their buildings will require in the future,”

Creating more usable space and design flexibility for new installations and modernization projects

By enabling two cars to share a single shaft, guide rails and landing doors, TWIN can enhance building design with reduced elevator-core requirements in new installations and create additional usable or rentable space. This gives architects and developers greater flexibility in building design, while potentially reducing construction costs and associated CO₂ emissions due to fewer shafts.

For developers and building owners who are repurposing or modernizing their buildings, TWIN can support changing building use and tenant structures over time. In high-rise projects, TWIN enables increased traffic capacity and can efficiently address defined groups of floors, helping to optimize passenger traffic and even allow existing shafts to be repurposed.

Connected and adaptive building operations

The new TWIN integrates TKE’s digital solutions to support building planners, owners, facility managers and passengers throughout the elevator lifecycle. Cloud connectivity, embedded AI and data-driven insights support system monitoring, traffic management and service planning.

TWIN incorporates TKE’s AGILE Dispatcher algorithm to enable adaptive traffic management. The AI-supported system identifies traffic patterns and dynamically adjusts dispatching decisions to help reduce average waiting and travel times. During off-peak periods, it can operate with fewer cars and lower acceleration speeds, helping to reduce energy consumption and component wear while maintaining appropriate transport capacity.

As part of the same digital ecosystem as TKE’s MAX offering, TWIN supports system-health monitoring and predictive and proactive service recommendations. Open API integration also enables connectivity with building platforms, including building-management, access-control and security systems.

Eco-efficient and engineered for safety

TWIN can adapt to lower passenger volumes by parking one car when it is not required. Its regenerative drive technology captures braking energy and feeds it back into the building’s electrical grid.

Safety

The system has been engineered for the safe operation of two cars in one shaft. Its four-layer safety concept maintains a safe distance between the cabins at all times. TWIN is certified by the German TÜV inspectorate, holds an EU Design Examination Certificate in accordance with Directive 2014/33/EU and complies with Liftinstituut’s cybersecurity requirements. The first generation of TWIN has been in operation for over 20 years.

Part of TKE’s Dynamic High-Rise portfolio

TWIN is part of TKE’s Dynamic High-Rise portfolio, which combines tailored elevator and escalator solutions with specialised support from TKE’s Dynamic High-Rise Competence Center. Alongside HELIX, DOUBLE DECK and Shaft Climber, TWIN helps customers define the mobility strategy best suited to the individual requirements of each high-rise project. The new TWIN is available for project planning purposes in countries related to code EN 81 20/50 including countries in Europe, Middle East, Latin America and specific areas of Asia.
