ThyssenKrupp Elevator wins second major order in Dubai

US$100 million elevator, escalator and moving walk order for Dubai Airport

ThyssenKrupp Elevator has been awarded a US$100 million order to supply and install 658 passenger conveyance systems for the Dubai Airport expansion project, currently the biggest airport project in the world. A total of 368 elevators, 162 escalators and 128 moving walks are to be supplied over the next four years.

"We are very proud that our quality and technology won out against international competition and that we were able to meet our customer`s extremely demanding requirements. We regard this order as an expression of trust in our commitment to this region. Dubai Airport will become the jewel of the Middle East," said Gary Elliott, Chief Executive of ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG, Düsseldorf/Germany.

Early in June of this year, ThyssenKrupp Elevator was awarded a US$50 million order for 117 passenger boarding bridges for Dubai Airport, 25 of them for use with the new Airbus A380.

"With a total volume of US$150 million, this is the biggest airport project there has ever been in our sector", said Elliott.

ThyssenKrupp Elevator is a significant player in the Middle East, with a presence in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Syria and a plant in Jordan.

ThyssenKrupp Elevator has a team of over 300 people in the UAE and is constantly expanding. Every day, thousands of people use ThyssenKrupp Elevator products in malls such as the Deira City Center and the Wafi Mall in Dubai as well as in Al Ain and Al Nada. The company is also currently working on an elevator installation in the new Dubai Etisalat Tower and was responsible for the mobile escalators purchased by Saudi Arabian Airlines that won the Elevator World Project of the Year Award 2003/2004.
