Building Code

While learning about elevators and the many details that go into their safe performance, building code can’t be taken lightly. A building code is an ordinance or set of rules which identifies the requirements or standards for building design and construction. The code must be met or construction permits cannot be obtained. Building code can vary depending on your location, but there are some model codes such as:

  • National Building Code
  • Standard Building Code
  • Uniform Building Code

These are considered the national standard for building, but the main point of the building code is to protect public health, safety and welfare pertaining to building construction and occupancy.
