Everything Made Possible Through API's

The proliferation of personal electronic devices and massive enterprise computing systems is astounding. Even more impressive and potentially transformative is the integration and cooperation between all of these electronic systems via APIs.

An API, or Application Programming Interface, enables various devices and programs to connect with one another.

Each time you use an app like Facebook, send an instant message or check the weather on your phone, you are using an API. The connections between your device and the various servers in the cloud containing the information you want all communicate via API.

As consumers, we are already experiencing Smart Technologies enabled by APIs proliferating within our homes. We see it in everything from doorbells to lighting and even the cameras we use to spy on our pets when we are not home.

Within the commercial building industry, APIs enable systems to integrate a wide range of building control functions. Previously, key systems such as HVAC, lighting and security used to be completely independent and required manual adjustments for operation.

Today, Building Management Systems leverage APIs to aggregate data and enable autonomous adjustments to optimize tenant comfort, energy efficiency and, consequently, economic and environmental impacts.

At TK Elevator, APIs enable our clients to leverage apps to call elevators and allow property managers to aggregate our elevator data into one Building Management System — and even to interact with robots!

Low value added or physically taxing tasks that humans would have done in the past can now be facilitated using open APIs to communicate between the robots, security controls, elevators and location sensors.

The future potential of intelligent systems in both consumer and commercial environments cooperating and adding value to each other is virtually unlimited. All of that is made possible by an API.
