TK Elevator Canada partners with PCL Construction for Atlantic Canada’s largest elevator project at Halifax Infirmary Expansion
Halifax, Nova Scotia — 11.13.25 — TK Elevator Canada is partnering with PCL Construction to deliver vertical transportation solutions for the QEII Halifax Infirmary Expansion Project’s new Acute Care Tower, which will open to patients in Fall 2031. This landmark collaboration represents the largest elevator project by value in Atlantic Canada and the largest hospital vertical transportation project in Eastern Canada to date.
The expansion will feature the installation of 19 high-performance traction elevators in the new Acute Care Tower, designed to meet the growing demands of the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Construction is currently underway onsite and elevator installation is expected to begin in 2027.
“This win reflects our unmatched labor resources, deep commitment to safety and strong Canadian identity,” said Christopher Barbeau, vice president of sales, TK Elevator Canada. “PCL’s confidence in our ability to deliver stems from our proven track record, including our successful collaboration on the Corner Brook Acute Care Centre in Newfoundland.”
TK Elevator Canada’s proposal stood out for its value, reliability and safety-first culture — qualities that align closely with PCL Construction’s own rigorous standards. This shared commitment to safety and excellence was a key factor in securing the partnership.
The project will be delivered using local labor and resources, reinforcing TK Elevator Canada’s commitment to our communities and supporting critical infrastructure projects that serve Canadians.
“We understand how much this project means to Halifax,” said Senior Vice-President and District Manager for PCL Construction, Paul Knowles. “The expansion of the QEII Halifax Infirmary will have an immediate impact on the community, and PCL is proud to lead constructions and building teams who will make it a reality.”
As Canada continues to invest in health care infrastructure — from hospitals to airports — TK Elevator Canada remains dedicated to delivering safe and innovative vertical transportation solutions that reflect both its global expertise and Canadian roots.
