Geared Traction Elevators

Geared traction elevators contain a single gearbox which is attached to the AC or DC motor. This gearbox is latched onto the motor will propel a wheel rotates to move the rope. The geared traction elevator is utilized for mid-rise buildings up to 300 feet in height. It also has the ability to reach speeds up to 500 feet per minute, which is slightly slower than a gearless traction elevator but still higher than other forms of elevators.

Some benefits of this type of elevator include:

  • Capable of lifting heavier loads — up to 30,000 lbs.
  • Energy efficiency — since they use less power to turn the sheave
  • Floor level accuracy is high no matter the weight of the load
