Hoistway Access

Do you know how technicians or inspectors access the hoistway and the equipment it houses? The hoistway access as it relates to an elevator is a key switch (or switches) that is typically fixed at the bottom or top of the hoistway.

When the key switch is engaged, the technician can control the cab and move it through the shaft at a slow speed, allowing access to the top of the cab or pit. Once work is finished, the switches must be reset before the elevator can return to normal function. This ensures the authorized user can safely complete their work with minimal risk.
